Tripundra — the three lines of sacred ash

Nath Sampradaya · Gorakhnath lineage

You are not lost. You are between fires.

The weariness you carry is not a flaw to be fixed. It is a signal that the life you are living and the life you are meant for have drifted apart. Sit with someone who has walked this road, and find the alignment again.

आदेश

Adesh — the Nath greeting. Recognition, one seeker to another.

The four aims

A whole life has four directions. Most suffering is one of them pulling against the others.

The Purusharthas are not a hierarchy to climb. They are four aims held in tension, and the work of guidance is finding where yours have come out of balance.

  • धर्म

    DharmaRight action

The work that is genuinely yours to do. We look at the duties you have taken on, the ones you have avoided, and whether the shape of your days matches the person you are becoming.

  • अर्थ

    ArthaMeans and security

Livelihood without anxiety. Not renunciation of money, but a clear relationship with it — earning in a way that does not quietly cost you your practice or your peace.

  • काम

    KamaDesire and relationship

What you want, and what wanting is doing to you. Relationships, appetite, and ambition examined honestly — neither indulged blindly nor suppressed into resentment.

  • मोक्ष

    MokshaRelease

The horizon the other three serve. Stillness that does not depend on your circumstances staying arranged — the ground the Nath jogis have pointed to for a thousand years.

The guidance framework

What we sit with

A session is a conversation, not a lecture. You bring what is actually pressing; the tradition supplies the frame. Most people arrive with something from one of these four.

Navigating life decisions

A crossroads you have been circling for months. We map the choice against your dharma rather than against other people’s expectations, until the direction is obvious to you.

  • Career or vocation at a turn
  • Marriage, family, and duty
  • Leaving or staying

Emotional stillness

Anger, grief, and restlessness are not enemies. They are weather. You will learn to sit in the middle of them without being carried off — the practical core of satvik living.

  • Chronic anxiety
  • Grief that has not moved
  • Reactive anger

Life purpose

Not a job title. The particular fire you were given to tend. We work backwards from what has always held your attention to the shape of a life built around it.

  • Persistent emptiness
  • Success that feels hollow
  • Beginning again

Spiritual grounding

A practice you can actually keep. Asana, breath, mantra, and discipline drawn from the Nath tradition and fitted to a modern life, not borrowed from a monastery you do not live in.

  • Starting a sadhana
  • Practice that has gone stale
  • Lineage questions

Where this practice has been

Gatherings, pilgrimages, and the long walks between them. The teaching does not only happen in a room.

  1. Gathering

Three days above the old palace

    Nuwakot, Bagmati

Fourteen people, one fire, and the ridge above Nuwakot for three days. Mornings in silence before the valley cleared, instruction at the dhuni after dark. Several who came arrived expecting a course and left with a practice instead.

  2. Pilgrimage

At the seat of the lineage

    Gorakhnath Mandir, Gorakhpur

A fortnight at the principal Gorakhnath temple, sitting with jogis whose practice long predates any of this. Less teaching than listening — the kind of trip that adjusts what you thought you had understood.

  3. Teaching

    Monthly satsang, Patan

    Patan, Kathmandu

The regular evening gathering in Patan — open to anyone, no prior study assumed. Questions from the floor, and the four aims worked through against whatever people actually brought that week.

  4. Pilgrimage

    The long walk north

    Upper Mustang

Three weeks on foot through Upper Mustang, following cave sites used by practitioners for centuries. Walking at altitude does something to the mind that no amount of sitting in a room replicates.

  5. Gathering

    Mahashivaratri at the ghats

    Pashupatinath, Kathmandu

The night of Shivaratri among the jogis at Pashupatinath. Thousands arrive; a few hundred stay awake to the end. The teaching that night is the crowd itself — everything that is sought elsewhere, on display in one place.

The Nath Sampradaya traces to Guru Gorakhnath, the jogi who took the highest teachings out of the courts and gave them to householders, cremation grounds, and road-walkers. Its instruction has never been that you must leave your life to find stillness. It is that stillness is available inside the life you already have.

This practice follows that line. Years spent at the dhuni, in temple and on foot across Nepal and northern India — Gorakhnath temples, the caves above Nuwakot, and the long stretches between them where the actual teaching happens.

What is offered here is not a course, a certification, or a system to subscribe to. It is a conversation with someone further along the same road, for as long as it is useful to you.
